KABUL (AFP) -- A helicopter from the U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan was shot down with small arms fire near the capital Kabul early Wednesday but there were no serious injuries, the force said.

The aircraft caught fire after the incident in Logar province, which comes amid a surge in a deadly Taleban-linked insurgency in Afghanistan.
""A coalition helicopter was shot down by small-arms fire in Kherwar District, Logar province, earlier this morning,"" a U.S.-led coalition statement said.
""The pilots safely landed the aircraft and evacuated all personnel before the aircraft caught on fire. There were no serious injuries to the crew or passengers,"" it said.
The incident was still under investigation, said the coalition.
Taleban rebels have often shot at military helicopters since launching their insurgency after U.S.-led forces toppled their hardline regime in late 2001, but the militants usually miss.
However a rocket-propelled grenade brought down a Chinook helicopter in Kunar in June 2005, killing 16 U.S. soldiers.
Seven NATO soldiers -- all Americans except for a Briton and a Canadian -- were killed in May 2007 when a helicopter crashed in southern Afghanistan after apparently being struck by a rocket.
